It was our last day in Sweden, our last day of Math 257 (except for the final paper due on Tuesday!), and our last time all together in the same place.
As with every other day, we packed a lot in. Five people went to the ABBA Museum and came out humming. Eleven of us explored the National Museum. It's a fairly small museum, but had a lot of interesting stuff and, of course, included many Swedish artists who are not well represented at other museums around the world.
The evening ended with a group dinner at a Tapas Bar. The food was excellent and just the right amount, unlike our first dinner together that went on and on and on. We talked about some of our favorite memories ("all castles are good," the ferry trip, the Vasa Museum, the hike in Heidelberg, adorable Bamberg, ancient Sigtuna, and the free weekend), and wished the early risers well. Five poor souls have to leave the hostel at 4:30am while the rest of us will depart at a more civilized hour.
I've been thinking about Math 257 since 2016. Covid hampered me twice, but the silver lining is that I couldn't have had a better group for my first offering of the course and my first J-term abroad. The 18 students were smart, fun, and interesting; they worked hard, played hard, were respectful of one another, and experienced every day to its fullest. I feel privileged to have enjoyed this month with them.
