Today was the final day of presentations, and everyone did a splendid job! Hearing about the adversity of many different mathematicians helped us to see some of the common obstacles that have kept some demographics out of the STEM field in the past, some of which, unfortunately, still exist today. However, the stories of the mathematicians and scientists who overcame those hurdles also inspired us: such hurdles can indeed be overcome, and, hopefully, be erased entirely in the future.
For our extra-class activity today, we decided to take a ferry ride! As a bonus, our passage was free, since ferries are part of the public transportation infrastructure here in Sweden. Who knew? Anyway, there could not have been a better way to take advantage of the sunny (though still chilly) weather today. During the ride, we took in some beautiful scenery, including some views of the less urban areas surrounding Stockholm. The ferry took us to a city called Vaxholm, a small and charming city which featured a quaint hotel overlooking the port, some small cafés along the main street, and, to our delight, some very people-friendly ducks. We spent a short time here before the return ferry arrived to bring us back to Stockholm.
After dinner, a group went to sing karaoke in the hotel, and killed it!
